Important aspects of Spain Residency By Investment

Aside from offering sunshine, varied and healthy cuisine, and a wealth of cultural richness, Spain is not only the investment gateway to the whole of Europe, but it is also the host country for many foreign investors and families who choose our country as their habitual place of residence.

Many foreign investors , entrepreneurs and highly qualified professionals are already benefiting from the provisions of Law 14/2013 of September 27 on support for entrepreneurs and their internationalization, which offers the possibility of obtaining a general residence permit within 10 to 20 days from applying for it, both for the investors and their spouses and children under 18 years of age, or over if they are unable to provide for their own needs due to their state of health.

The residence permit gives the holder the right to reside in Spain for an initial period ranging from 1 to 3 years (depending on how the investment is made in Spain), without the need to apply for a foreigner’s identity card. The residence may be renewed even if the holder spends periods of more than 6 months per year out of Spain, and for periods ranging from 2 to 5 years.

How to get a residence permit in Spain?

The general requirements for obtaining it are basically not to be found irregularly on Spanish soil, not to have a criminal record in Spain and in the countries where you have resided in the last 5 years, not to be recorded as inadmissible in the territory of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement to this effect, to have a public insurance or a private health insurance policy taken out with an Insurance Company authorized to operate in Spain and with sufficient economic resources for yourself and your family members during their period of residence in Spain (€2,130 per month for the interested party and €532 for each dependent family member).

Among others, the following constitute ways of obtaining a residence permit in Spain: investment in real estate in Spain with an investment value equal to or greater than €500,000 euros, free of any charge or encumbrance (the part of the investment that exceeds the required amount may be subject to a charge or encumbrance); the constitution of mercantile companies in Spain for the hiring of highly-qualified foreign professionals; or even the establishment in Spain of a entrepreneurial business activity of special economic interest.
