They are deductions on the contributions that result from the application of certain percentages and whose purpose is to encourage the access of certain groups to the labor market by reducing the costs of Social Security for companies.

The applicable deductions are in very diverse amounts and for different groups. Groups such as people with disabilities, victims of domestic violence or gender violence, or long-term unemployed people, among others, are included. The Spanish Social Security publishes them in detail.

A more specific situation of applying these deductions is the replacement of a person on leave for the birth and care of a minor, which does not have any additional social security cost for the company.

Protective Action of the Social Security System

The protective action of the Spanish Social Security System is very extensive and completely applicable to workers, foreigners or not, who reside in Spanish territory. Likewise, it is extendable to their relatives.

It includes both financial benefits and benefits in kind.

Among the financial benefits there are temporary disability, retirement, permanent disability, unemployment, birth and care of a minor, risk during pregnancy, widowhood, and many others.

Regarding benefits in kind, Social Security covers health care, pharmaceutical benefits, and social services.

Health Care in Spain

The purpose of Social Security health care is to provide the medical and pharmaceutical services necessary to preserve or restore the health of its beneficiaries, as well as their ability to work. It also provides services necessary to complete medical and pharmaceutical benefits, with special regard to the physical rehabilitation required to achieve a complete professional recovery of the worker.

Health care is guaranteed for insured persons and beneficiaries. The insured persons are mainly employed or self-employed, as well as pensioners and those actively seeking employment.

The beneficiaries are the spouses, descendants, and other assimilated dependents if they do not obtain the status of insured persons by themselves.

Spanish nationals or nationals from any other State of the European Union are also guaranteed it as long as they reside in Spain.

Even foreigners who are not working in Spain might be also covered under certain circumstances, such as during pregnancy or minors, for example.
